Sicherheit statt Freiheit? Graz und die Menschenrechte 2

Der zweite Teil des Projekts „Graz und die Menschenrechte“ beschäftigt sich mit dem Ort, an dem der Verlust von Freiheit und die Gewährung von Sicherheit am konkretesten spürbar wird: das Gefängnis. Die Haftanstalt wird zur Metapher einer Welt, in der Sicherheitsdenken, Überwachung und Kontrolle eine zunehmend zentrale Rolle spielen. Doch wie sieht das alltägliche Leben in Haft wirklich aus? Welches Bild davon entsteht von außen, wie sieht es von innen aus? Wie gut funktioniert das Strafsystem und wie sinnvoll ist es überhaupt? Für das Projekt werden Interviews mit Insassen und Bediensteten in den Justizanstalten Graz-Karlau und Graz-Jakomini aufgenommen, so wie Recherchen und Auseinandersetzungen mit Expert*innen. Im Probenprozess bilden die Gespräche die Basis für die textliche und szenische Erarbeitung, die letztendlich als Gesamtinstallation im Schaumbad audiovisuell erlebbar gemacht wird. Die Zuschauer*innen treten gemeinsam eine Busreise vom Schauspielhaus an und werden mit Kopfhörern in die Installation geführt. Einerseits wird mit der Wahrnehmung über die Kopfhörer und die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven gespielt, andererseits über die szenische Intervention der Schauspieler*innen. Ein kleiner Einblick in den hochkomplexen Kosmos von Gefangenschaft wird geboten. Im Anschluss führt der Bus wieder zurück in den Alltag, zurück zum Schauspielhaus.

Graz and Human Rights, part 2

Prison and the situation of prisoners are the topic of this year's chapter of "Graz and Human Rights". It questions the reasonableness and legitimacy of imprisonment, solitary confinement and law enforcement. The prison is seen as a metaphor of a world in which security concerns, surveillance and control are playing increasingly central roles. What does security even mean to us, and what are we afraid of? What should we be frightened of? During the course of the performance, the audience will be turned into actors and objects: Through varied perspectives on the scenic installation, they will experience and learn things that shape life in imprisonment.
